The night started as it was supposed to. Melanie agreed to meet for one last drink before
she flew back to the UK and I returned to New York. It will be months before she and I
can go out trouble-making again together, so this was to be a very fateful last drink.
Yeah, well, if you know Melanie and I, and if you know what bonds our friendship, you'll
expect to hear that we did not have one last drink, but three! Somewhere in there I texted with
Dave to arrange meeting him later for my last drink with him as well. Well, then the magic word
came into the conversation and Melanie started getting agitated. She knew that despite her best
intentions of returning home, packing and getting a good night's rest, she was doomed
to a night out on the town with me. Again!
Of course she stood her ground for a while. She wished me farewell at the Bologna metro station
and I trekked off to meet Dave in Campo dei' Fiori. Upon arrival I found Dave there with James
and that obviously implied that, whether she knew it or not, Melanie would soon be on her way too!
Here are the pictures of the four of us getting silly on Dracula liquor. Surely this won't be the
last time, but it certainly was a rather silly, special, unique, ex-patriate evening.
